2024 EITM Summer Institute

The Emory University Political Science Department will host the 2024 Summer Institute on EITM: Empirical Implications of Theoretical Models from June 23 - July 12, 2024

What is EITM?

Since 2002 the National Science Foundation-funded Empirical Implications of Theoretical Models (EITM) Summer Institute has trained graduate students and junior faculty in research strategies to integrate theoretical models and empirical research to improve and expand our understanding of politics. The 2024 institute will integrate developments and findings from throughout political science, including the substantive areas of American politics, comparative politics, international relations, and political economy, with methodological approaches that include causal inference, game theoretic model-building, experimental design, and construct measurement.

The primary benefits of EITM for student participants are:

  • Instruction by leading scholars in the discipline on the use and integration of theoretical and empirical methodological tools
  • Deeper understanding of philosophical and epistemological considerations in theory building and evaluation
  • Support and feedback on students’ own research by EITM faculty and participants
  • Opportunity to collaborate on model-building with fellow participants in a small-group setting
  • A network of EITM students, alumni, and faculty that will provide constructive engagement long after the institute concludes

Applications for the program are due on Friday, March 8, 2024 by midnight (Eastern Standard Time).
